This year St Andrew’s chose to support three charities as the focus of our Christmas giving. The money collected at our Christingle service was given to ‘The Children’s Society’ to support their work.
The collections and donations from all the other Christmas events listed below, and also our Carol Service, Midnight Holy Communion and Christmas Day services, were sent to ‘The Bridge’ and ‘One Roof Leicester’
Lighting the LFE Christmas Tree
Christmas started at St Andrew’s in 1st December when the whole Leicester Forest East community gathered and joined in the lighting of the LFE Christmas Tree.
The local Brownies and Scout Cubs lead the entertainment in the church with the signing of well known traditional and modern seasonal songs as well as serving hot dogs for everyone.
Messy Church on 4th December told the Christmas story in an all inclusive way!! The children rotated through the roles of Mary and Joseph, the shepherds, and the kings while the Angel had a stark resemblance to one of our leaders, Colleen!
Our annual “Christingle” service, celebrating the coming of Jesus the “Light of the World”, took place on 18th December.
Many from throughout the community came to St Andrew’s to join in the annual Radio Leicester broadcast of “Sing Christmas”, led by prominent personalities from the city and county of Leicester, with carols from Leicester Cathedral choir. Our gathering quickly got in the Christmas mood helped with mulled wine and mince pies provided by our neighbouring Sainsburys Local.
Children and adults alike came along dressed up as one of the characters (or objects!) of the Christmas story. We ended up with four Mary’s and more shepherd and kings than you can imagine, but they all played a vital role in capturing and telling this wonderful story.
