At a private service at the Bishop’s Chapel, Bishop Martyn dedicated the new altar cloth that has been donated to St Andrew’s by Alan Partner and his family. Pictured (l to r) are Neil Partner, Sherran Willson, Alan Partner, and Bishop Martyn.
The service was led by Bishop Martyn and included a reading from Ephesians. The gift and dedication of the altar cloth has occurred during 2016, our 50th Anniversary year, which makes it particularly significant to us.
Our previous altar cloth had suffered accidental damage and Alan Partner kindly responded to our needs by donating a new cloth in memory of his late wife Monica.
Alan and Monica had been long standing members of St Andrew’s and served the church in many ways. Following the death of Monica, Alan has continued to be a strength within the church and serves on the Church Council, is a Communion Assistant and has been a regular member of our Messy Church team.
The embroidery design, chosen by Alan and his family, incorporate a cross and a fish symbol to reflect their significance to St Andrew. The new cloth has been manufactured and embroidered to our own specification by J&M Sewing Services Ltd of Newcastle who provide services to HM The Queen for clerical robes.
