A Christening, or Baptism, is one of the greatest reasons for celebration in the church! It is the initiation of those being Christened into the family of the church and so becoming a follower of Jesus Christ.
Most coming to be Christened are children being brought by their parents or guardian who have decided that they wish to have their child Christened. Many parents do so because they want to give their child the best start in life and we are delighted to be able to help with that (here you see the Christening party at Danielle Elizabeth’s Christening) . However anyone wishing to be Christened, at whatever age, is warmly welcomed.
We are also very happy to discuss providing a special service to mark the birth of a child – whether a service of dedication (for parents who are not yet ready to call themselves followers of Jesus) or Christening (for those who are).
If you are considering Christening, whether you are making the choice for your children or you are making the decision on your own behalf, you are invited to meeting with a member of the clergy team at a mutually convenient time. This meeting will provide information about the promises you will be making and offer support for the commitment that candidates, parents and godparents will need in the years ahead in their future life with Christ.
We prefer to welcome new members to Christ’s family by conducting the Christening during the main 10:30am church service on the third Sunday of the month. However, we do understand that personal circumstances may mean that you prefer to choose a specially arranged service on a different Sunday and this option can be explored.
You will find the information on the Church of England Christening site but please contact our ‘Priest in Charge’ Revd Dave Hover, on 0116 2895372, if you wish to discuss your interest in more detail.
