A period of prayer is preserved between 10:00am and 3:30pm at St Andrew’s Church, Leicester Forest East, on two significant occasions each year. On each occasion, all are welcomed to drop by and spend a little or as much time as they wish in quiet reflection to light a candle in remembrance of a loved one who is no longer with us.
The first of these is on the Saturday of Holy Week (the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Day).
The ministry team provides pastoral support for and conversation with those who wish. Complementary refreshments are available.
The second “Light a Candle” event is held annually on the last Saturday before Christmas Eve. Christmas time is such a poignant time for the bereaved and this carefully chosen day has been found to offer great comfort to all those who attend.
Two particular features of the Christmas event is the addition of an opportunity to create two personally decorated baubles. One is to leave on St Andrew’s Christmas tree and the other to take home to hang on the family Christmas tree. The second feature is the planting of spring bulbs in the grounds of St Andrew’s with the anticipation that they will bloom the following springtime and, hopefully, at Easter.
